Build Your Own Air Conditioner With a Fan and Water Bottle
Not everyone has the means to purchase an air conditioner or fan to keep themselves or their family cool. However, there are simple alternatives using everyday household items such as a water bottle and fan to create a makeshift air conditioner:
1Using a salt water bottle:
To cool the air using a salt water bottle and a fan, follow these steps:
Step 1:
- Take 3 plastic water bottles and pour 3 teaspoons of refined salt (approximately 50 grams) into each bottle.
- Seal the bottles and shake them to dissolve the salt.
Step 2:
Place the salt water bottles in the freezer compartment and let them freeze before using them for cooling. Salt water is used to prevent the ice from melting quickly when placed in front of the fan.
Step 3:
Position the frozen salt water bottles in front of the fan, maintaining a distance of about 15 cm. The fan’s airflow will cause the water to evaporate and reduce the temperature as it passes through the frozen bottles.
Step 4:
If the water bottles melt, you can refreeze them or use additional bottles for continued cooling.
You can repeat this process as needed to keep cool.
2Using hanging water bottles:
Hanging water bottles on the fan is another method to help reduce heat. Follow these steps:
Step 1:
- Take 2 empty bottles and cut off the bottom, leaving about 2.5 cm of the bottle intact.
Step 2:
- Use a drill to create multiple holes in the cut plastic bottle.
- Each hole should be about 0.64 cm in size.
- Space the holes about 1.3 cm apart. You can drill a circle around the bottle as a template for additional rounds of holes.
Step 3:
- Turn off the fan and thread a string through the top holes of each bottle.
- Tie the bottle string to the back of the fan mesh, ensuring a secure knot that prevents tangling and keeps the bottles in place.
- Use another string to tie the bottle caps to prevent tilting or falling during the cooling process.
Step 4:
- Fill the drilled bottles with ice cubes and turn on the fan.
- Adjust the fan to direct the cool air where you want.
Step 5:
If you notice excessive water accumulation in the bottles without evaporation or overflow, open the bottle cap and collect the water in a bowl. Add more ice to the bottles to continue the cooling process.
These two methods allow you to creatively use simple items like water bottles and fans to quickly cool down. Give them a try and beat the heat!
